Audio Format Converter

Convert between MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC, and FLAC audio formats.

Audio Format Converter transcodes any-to-any among MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC, and FLAC (default MP3). Drop a file, choose Output Format, Convert Audio — a Local Processing alert confirms work stays in the browser. There is no bitrate slider: MP3/AAC use 192 kbps, WAV is 16-bit PCM, FLAC is lossless, OGG uses libvorbis defaults.

Unlike Video to Audio (which can stream-copy AAC), this path always re-encodes. Changing the format clears any prior result. Output keeps the basename with the new extension. Steps: Upload → Convert → Download.

How it works

FFmpeg.wasm via useAudioConverterFfmpeg. getAudioConverterArgs: -i input + codec per target — mp3 → libmp3lame 192k; wav → pcm_s16le; ogg → libvorbis; aac → aac 192k; flac → flac; fallback → libmp3lame 192k.

MIME from getAudioConverterMimeType; success toast Audio converted!; failure Failed to convert audio. Engine loads on mount; button disabled until isLoaded.

How to use

  1. Open Audio Format Converter and read the Local Processing alert (middle step label is Convert).
  2. Drop an audio file (hint: MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC, FLAC — any audio format).
  3. Preview the source; chip shows size; wait for engine load.
  4. Choose Output Format (defaults to MP3).
  5. Click Convert Audio (Converting…) and watch progress % + log.
  6. Play the result (Converted to MP3 + size badge).
  7. Download {basename}.{ext} or Start Over.
  8. For trimming/speed, chain Audio Trimmer or Audio Speed Changer afterward.

Tips

  • Lossy→lossy (MP3→OGG) double-compresses — go via WAV/FLAC first if you need an archive master.
  • WAV/FLAC outputs often exceed source size (red TrendingUp badge).
  • No bitrate control — 192k is hardcoded for MP3/AAC.
  • Format change resets any in-progress result in state.
