Video to Audio
Extract audio from video files as MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG.
Video to Audio extracts the soundtrack from a video as MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG (default MP3). Drop a video, pick Audio Format, click Extract Audio — a Performance Notice asks you to keep the tab open while FFmpeg.wasm runs locally. The result plays in an audio player with a size badge versus the source video.
AAC uses stream copy when the source already has AAC (fast, lossless remux); MP3 re-encodes at 192k; OGG uses libvorbis at 192k; WAV is raw PCM (often larger than the video). There are no trim controls here — use Audio Trimmer afterward for a segment.
How it works
FFmpeg args from buildVideoToAudioArgs: -vn drops video, plus per-format codec flags — mp3 → libmp3lame -b:a 192k; wav → passthrough PCM; aac → -c:a copy; ogg → libvorbis -b:a 192k.
MIME map: audio/mpeg, audio/wav, audio/aac, audio/ogg. Output keeps the basename with the new extension. Shared useFFmpegService loads on mount with progress and stale-event guards.
How to use
- Open Video to Audio and read the Performance Notice.
- Drop a video (hint: MP4, WebM, MOV — any video format).
- Preview plays; wait for FFmpeg isLoaded (button enables).
- Open Audio Format and choose MP3 (default), WAV, AAC, or OGG.
- Click Extract Audio (Extracting…) and watch progress % + FFmpeg log.
- Play the result (Converted to MP3 + original → output size badge).
- Download {basename}.{ext} or Start Over.
- For a segment, trim the extracted file with Audio Trimmer.
Tips
- AAC -c:a copy is fastest/lossless when the source track is already AAC.
- WAV is uncompressed PCM — output can be larger than the source (red size badge).
- MP3/OGG at 192k are solid sharing defaults; there is no bitrate slider.
- No trim in this tool — extract first, then trim (or use Media Converter trim fields).
Video to Audio FAQ
Does it upload my video?
No — extraction runs locally with FFmpeg.wasm.
Which audio formats can I get?
Exactly four: MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG.
Why choose AAC?
-c:a copy remuxes an existing AAC track without re-encoding — fastest and lossless when compatible.
Will WAV be smaller?
Usually not — WAV is raw PCM; prefer MP3/OGG for size.
Can I trim while extracting?
Not in this tool — set Audio Format first, then use Audio Trimmer (or Media Converter’s Trim fields).
