Video Mute
Remove the audio track from any video file while keeping the video intact.
Video Mute removes every audio track while keeping the video bitstream untouched. There are no settings — drop a video, wait for the engine, click Remove Audio. Steps are Upload → Convert → Download. A Performance Notice asks you to keep the tab visible during FFmpeg.wasm work.
Because the video is stream-copied (-c:v copy) and only audio is dropped (-an), muting is fast and free of generation loss. Output keeps the source extension (.mov → .mov) with a size badge showing roughly audio bitrate × duration saved.
How it works
Args are exactly -i input -an -c:v copy output. -an strips all audio streams; -c:v copy reuses the video bitstream untouched. The shared useFFmpegService loads on mount with progress and terminate-on-error behavior.
Input extension is preserved (input{ext} → output{ext}); MIME maps mp4→video/mp4, webm→video/webm, else video/mp4. Success toast: Audio removed from video!
How to use
- Open Video Mute and read the Performance Notice (middle step label is Convert).
- Drop a video (hint: MP4, WebM, MOV — any video format).
- Preview the source; wait for Loading Engine… until Remove Audio enables.
- There are no configuration controls — proceed when ready.
- Click Remove Audio (Muting…) and watch progress % + FFmpeg log.
- Play the silent result (Converted to EXT + size badge).
- Download the muted copy (same extension as source) or Start Over.
- Verify playback before sharing if the original had no audio track already.
Tips
- Fastest tool in the video set — no re-encode; size ≈ input minus the audio track.
- Video quality is identical (stream copy); timeline/duration is unchanged.
- Same extension in and out keeps downstream tools happy.
- Keep the tab visible — WASM progress events pause in background tabs.
Video Mute FAQ
Does muting re-encode my video?
No — -c:v copy copies the video bitstream; only the audio track is removed (-an).
Will quality drop?
No re-encode means no generation loss; size drops by roughly audio bitrate × duration.
Is the file uploaded?
No — FFmpeg.wasm runs entirely in the browser.
What formats are supported?
Anything the dropzone accepts (video/*, hinting MP4/WebM/MOV); output keeps the source extension.
Why is the button disabled?
The engine is still loading (isLoaded false) or a conversion is already running.
