PDF Split

Split a PDF by page ranges or extract individual pages.

PDF Split takes one document and breaks it into the pieces you actually need — a single range, fixed-size chunks, or one file per page. You choose a mode, enter a range like 1,3,5-7 or pick how many pages per output, and download the result as a PDF or a ZIP when there are multiple files. Everything runs in your browser with pdf-lib; the source file is never sent anywhere.

Use it to pull a chapter out of a report, burst a scan into individual pages for filing, or package sets of pages for different recipients. Splitting is non-destructive until you download: the original on disk stays exactly as it was.

How it works

When you load a PDF, the tool reads the page count and builds a thumbnail grid so you can see what you are cutting. Choosing Extract by ranges lets you type comma-separated pages and ranges; invalid numbers are ignored rather than aborting the run. Split every N pages divides the document into equal blocks (the last block may be shorter). Split all pages emits one PDF per page and packs them into a ZIP with JSZip.

The split itself creates a new PDFDocument, copies the selected source pages in order, and writes blob URLs for download. Modes that produce a single file give you one download button; multi-file modes give you a ZIP archive named from your output prefix.

How to use

  1. Open Split PDF and drop or click to add a PDF (accept is application/pdf).
  2. Confirm the page count in the header (for example 12 page(s)) and use Change File if you picked the wrong document.
  3. Pick a Split mode: Extract by ranges, Split every N pages, or Split all pages.
  4. For ranges, enter values like 1,3,5-7 in Page ranges — invalid entries are skipped.
  5. For every-N mode, set Pages per split between 1 and the document page count.
  6. For all-pages mode, note the ZIP notice: each page becomes its own PDF inside an archive.
  7. Click Split & Download and wait for Splitting… to finish.
  8. Download Split PDF or Download ZIP Archive (default name Split_PDF), or use Start Over to run again.

Tips

  • Ranges and every-N are mutually exclusive modes — switch the radio card if the wrong control is shown.
  • Split all pages is ideal for scan bursts; the ZIP keeps page order in filenames.
  • Password-protected or corrupt files fail with a clear error toast — unlock first with PDF Lock / Unlock.
  • Combine split output later with PDF Merger if you need to reassemble different ranges.

PDF Split FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Splitting runs entirely in the browser with pdf-lib. Files are read from your device and never sent to InBrowserKit.

What does invalid page ranges mean?

Parts of the range that are out of range or malformed are ignored. Valid numbers still produce output; fix the typo if a page is missing.

When do I get a ZIP instead of a single PDF?

Split all pages (and multi-result every-N runs that emit several files) package outputs into a ZIP via JSZip so you download once.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not directly — load will fail for encrypted or damaged files. Remove protection with PDF Lock / Unlock first, then split.

Does splitting modify my original file?

No. The original is only read. You download new files; changing or reloading clears any previous split result.
