Word to PDF

Convert DOCX documents to PDF locally in your browser.

Word to PDF converts .docx files entirely in your browser. The document renders with docx-preview into a scrollable preview, then Save as PDF opens your browser’s print dialog so you choose Save as PDF as the destination. Headers, footers, footnotes, and page breaks are preserved by the renderer; no file is uploaded to any server.

Use it when you need a quick PDF from a report or letter without installing Word or waiting on an online converter. Allow pop-ups before saving — the print flow opens a dedicated window.

How it works

Drop a .docx and the slice sends it to docx-preview renderAsync with breakPages and header/footer/footnote options. The HTML lands in a white docx-wrapper container (max-height 60vh) so you can verify layout before printing.

Save as PDF opens a blank window, writes the rendered HTML plus print CSS (including @page margin overrides), and calls window.print() after a short delay. You pick “Save as PDF” in the destination list; the suggested name mirrors your DOCX basename. Popup blockers surface a clear toast.

How to use

  1. Open Word to PDF (steps: Upload → Preview → Download).
  2. Drop or click your .docx file (accept is Word documents only — not legacy .doc).
  3. Wait for Rendering document… until the white preview appears.
  4. Scroll the preview (max 60vh) to confirm content and page breaks.
  5. Click Save as PDF (Printer icon) and allow the pop-up if prompted.
  6. In the print dialog choose destination Save as PDF and adjust margins if needed.
  7. Save; the suggested filename matches your document name.
  8. Use Start Over to convert another file.

Tips

  • Allow pop-ups before clicking Save or you will see the open-print-dialog error.
  • Only .docx is accepted — export legacy .doc from Word first.
  • Complex columns/text boxes may render approximately; check the preview carefully.
  • Headers and footers render when present in the DOCX structure (docx-preview supports them).

Word to PDF FAQ

Does this upload my document?

No. Rendering and printing run entirely in your browser (Local Processing alert on the page).

Why a print dialog instead of an instant download?

The conversion uses the browser Print API — you choose Save as PDF as the destination for a faithful print layout.

Can I convert .doc files?

No, only .docx. Open legacy files in Word/Docs and save as .docx first.

Are headers and footers kept?

docx-preview is configured to render headers, footers, footnotes, and endnotes when present.

Does it work offline?

Yes after the app shell loads — no upload endpoint is involved in conversion.
